Why are there so many Monkey NFTs?
NFT is strange. For some time, the internet has been
saturated with images of ridiculous monkeys. Seriously, they are everywhere.
For those who don't know. The apocalypse is credited to the Bored Ape Yacht
Club (BAYC). The NFT collection was launched in 2021 thanks to the support of a
series of celebrities. Jimmy Kimmel and Paris Hilton performed their monkey art
in a confused crowd, spending hundreds of grands at The Tonight Show. Digital
artists saw the immense popularity of the Bored Ape Yacht Club and saw their
chances. But why are there still so many
monkey NFTs?
Imitation is the most sincere form of
flattery
There are many NFT collections that blatantly imitate Bored
Ape. And most people don't have the money to spend $ 200,000 on digital art.
This is where the success of collections like MonkeyBetDAO begins. The lowest
or reserved price for BAYC is around 88 ETH or a quiet $ 225,000. However, you
can bet monkeys for only 0.029 ETH, about $ 75. And they have a serious business.
About 4,000 people own MonkeyBet NFT. There are some aesthetic differences
between BAYC and Monkey Bet. But, like counterfeit designer brands, there are
clearly those markets.
However, it is not limited to MonkeyBetDAO. There is an
OnChainMonkey collection. To be honest, some Neogen Space Monkeys don't look
like monkeys. Cyclopes Monkey Club that looks like a monkey but has one eye.
The list will continue to grow. Searching for the term "monkey" in
OpenSea yields approximately 2.5 million results. None of them are close to the
asking price from Bored Ape Yacht Club. But if you want to own a weird monkey JPEG that shoots a laser from
one eye, there's definitely something.
