NUTRITIONISTS SAY THE
BEST FOODS TO EAT FOR EXERCISE TO BURN MORE FAT
Exercise is an important part of maintaining a healthy
lifestyle. Not only does it help us look
good, it also helps us feel good, including managing chronic pain,
maintaining better balance, and improving sleep. When it comes to exercise,
it's important to consume the right drinks and eat the right foods before and
after to ensure that we get the proper benefits from our workouts.
However, we don't
always know exactly what to eat or drink to maintain a diet/exercise balance.
Or, we may wonder why we're not losing weight the way we should, even though it
seems like we're following the right routine.
Fortunately, there is
a combination of foods that help solve
this mystery. We asked our panel of health experts, Laura Burak MS, RD, founder
of GetNaked® Nutrition and author of Slimdown with Smoothies, and Lisa Young,
PhD, RDN, author of Last Full, Last Slim and the Slimdown Plan in terms of
portion sizes, what they believe is the best food to help someone burn more fat
during exercise. The two agree that the best foods to eat for more fat-burning
exercise include a combination of carbs
and protein.
"Although there is no particular food that 'burns more fat', foods that are considered primarily protein such as eggs, poultry, and fish have a higher thermic effect when eaten, that which basically means your body needs more energy to digest these proteins.. Burak says: "Carbs are as simple as fruit," says Burak. It is important to combine them with a carbohydrate.
“Include foods high in carbohydrates to give you energy as
well as protein to support you and keep your blood sugar steady,” says Young.
"I recommend supplementing with a good source of
protein to repair and build muscle tissue," says Burak. "At best,
meals and snacks that combine quality carbs (like fruit or granola bread and
crackers) with protein (like eggs, yogurt, turkey, nuts) will keep things
going) Your blood sugar is more stable, which will increase your meal
satisfaction and provide a more balanced feeling of nutrients to restore."
